Overview

The 38th Stuttgarter Filmwinter took place in January 2025 at venues in Stuttgart-Mitte: FITZ!, Theater tri-bühne, and Kunstbezirk. As every year, the Festival for Expanded Media gathered international short films, Expanded Media works, performances, and live acts under a thematic motto. Wand 5 e.V. once again proved to be an excellent organizer for avant-garde film art.

38th Stuttgarter Filmwinter 2025

The 2025 edition of the Stuttgarter Filmwinter took place in January 2025, bringing international experimental film art, Expanded Media works, short film competitions, and live acts to Stuttgart-Mitte, as it does every year. The three venues — FITZ! in the Tagblatt-Turm-Areal, the Theater tri-bühne, and KUNSTBEZIRK — jointly presented a dense program of screenings, performances, and workshops.

As always, the international open calls for short films, 2-minute shorts, Expanded Media, and music videos (Buggles Award) attracted thousands of submissions. The award ceremonies and opening events were the social highlights of the festival — a meeting of Stuttgart's art scene with the international avant-garde film world.
