Lake festival on Brandenburg's clearest lake
Neuglobsow is a district of the municipality of Stechlin in the Oberhavel district, located directly on the Stechlinsee. The lake itself is one of Germany's most unusual bodies of water: 70 meters deep, crystal clear, with its own legend about the Red Rooster that rises from the water during natural disasters — Theodor Fontane immortalized the place in his last novel "Der Stechlin" in 1898. The area belongs to the Stechlin-Ruppiner Land Nature Park and is one of Northern Germany's most pristine travel destinations.
The Stechlinseefest is organized by the Heimatverein Neuglobsow-Dagow e.V. — an active village association that preserves local customs and nature conservation. The 2026 festival will be the 5th edition of the Stechlinseefest (anniversary edition), taking place as usual in mid-July on the sunbathing lawn and festival grounds above the lake. The festival shapes the village for over 15 hours — from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. the following night.
The day begins at the beach with beach volleyball, introductory diving for water sports novices, and DLRG (German Life Saving Association) demonstrations. During the day, there's a stage program with local groups, catering at the festival grounds, and family activities. In the evening, the grounds transform into a dance floor — the traditional dance evening is one of the highlights of the Stechlinseefest. Simultaneously, Neuglobsow church opens for an atmospheric organ concert.
Visitors to the Stechlinseefest should take time to explore the surroundings. A hike around the lake, a visit to the "Wagenburger Stechlinsee-Center" with its nature exhibition, or a bike tour in the Stechlin-Ruppiner Land Nature Park are worthwhile. The literary connection to Fontane makes the place a pilgrimage site for lovers of Northern Germany. Accommodation is available in the village itself and in the surrounding communities of Rheinsberg and Gransee. Free admission.
