Edition 2025 — Opening Festival State Theatre Regensburg
The 2025/26 season at Theatre Regensburg began in September 2025, still as a city theatre – but with the prospect of state elevation in the following year. The opening presented a diverse program with premieres in all four departments. The elevation to State Theatre status was officially announced on May 8, 2026.
The Last City Theatre Season
The 2025/26 season was the last in which Theatre Regensburg opened as a city theatre. The season opening in September 2025 continued the programmatic line of previous years: premieres in music theatre, drama, dance, and youth theatre, classical works alongside world premieres, open-air productions in summer 2025, and revivals of successful previous productions.
Negotiations with the Free State of Bavaria regarding the elevation to State Theatre status, officially announced on May 8, 2026, were already underway during this season. This paved the way for the grand opening festival on September 19, 2026.
