Spring Festival at Mainz-Kastel Zoo 2026

The Spring Festival at Mainz-Kastel Zoo is the season opening of a small but very popular family spot. In the Petersberg biotope, the non-profit association Tierpark Mainz-Kastel e.V. volunteers care for a variety of animals and regularly opens the grounds to families from Mainz-Kastel, Wiesbaden, and the region.

The 2026 Spring Festival takes place on Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free; donations are welcome and benefit the association's work. The Spring Festival traditionally marks the start of the warm season at the zoo – the weather at the end of May allows for a relaxing day outdoors and fits well with the idea of a family Sunday.

Program

The focus of the festival is on encounters with the animals and an age-appropriate program for children. Donkeys, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry, and small animals can be observed up close. Refreshments with snacks and drinks provide culinary accompaniment; cozy seating areas under trees invite you to linger.

Petersberg Biotope

The Petersberg Biotope is located on the edge of the Mainz-Kastel district and is easily accessible by car and public transport. Mainz-Kastel is administratively part of the Hessian state capital Wiesbaden, but culturally belongs to the Mainz AKK region (Amöneburg, Kastel, Kostheim). The spacious grounds with animal enclosures, trees, and meadows are ideal for a family outing into nature.

Three Seasonal Festivals

The Spring Festival is one of the association's three seasonal festivals: Spring Festival (May/June), Summer Festival (July), and Autumn Festival (September). They represent the most important days of interaction between the association and the public.
