Overview

In 2025, the Sportplatzkärwa of FC Gefrees was also celebrated in the classic Franconian Sportkärwa format at the Friedhofsweg sports field. Three days of festival tent operation, club-supported catering, and Franconian music. The format has established itself over the years as a reliable anchor in the summer program of the small town at the foot of the Fichtelgebirge – between Bayreuth, Hof, and Wunsiedel.

The 2025 edition followed the proven scheme: opening on Friday, festival operation on the weekend, and closing on Sunday. FC Gefrees combines club life with festival catering, thus offering a form of folk festival that is widespread in the Fichtelgebirge – supported by the club, financed by revenue, and sustained by volunteer work.

Gefrees benefits from its location between Bayreuth (approx. 20 km) and Hof (35 km) and from tourism in the Fichtelgebirge massif. The Sportplatzkärwa regularly attracts guests from the surrounding towns – Bad Berneck, Bischofsgrün, Goldkronach.
