Edition 2025 — Sonnwendfeuer Geroldsgrün
The Sonnwendfeuer 2025 took place as usual at the end of June in the Geroldsgrün districts of Langenbach, Steinbach, and Hirschberglein. The local associations built the traditional bonfires, and in the evening, villagers and guests gathered before the towering woodpiles. In clear weather, the fires of the three districts were visible to each other – an impressive sight above the Franconian Forest.
The 2025 edition followed the usual format – construction of the woodpiles over several days by the local associations, ceremonial lighting at dusk, catering at the festival stands, and convivial gatherings.
Sonnwendfeuer like those in Geroldsgrün are quiet, organic traditions – without tourist staging, without stage shows, without admission fees. They thrive on the volunteer work of the local associations and the loyalty of the village communities to their customs. An authentic event for anyone wishing to experience genuine German folk culture in the Franconian Forest.
