Overview

The 5th Slavic Fairy Tale Festival 2025 took place on the first weekend of July at the Dissen Local History Museum. Storytelling, puppet theatre, and independent storytellers brought Sorbian-Wendish sagas to the audience — the festival has established itself as a fixed summer event in the Sorbian-Wendish cultural calendar of the Spreewald.

The 5th edition in 2025 continued the annual tradition: two days at the Dissen Local History Museum with Slavic sagas, Sorbian fairy tale characters, and a family program in the Spreewald Biosphere Reserve. The performances alternated between storytelling theatre, puppet and rod puppet shows, and independent storytelling formats. The festival is part of the efforts to keep Sorbian-Wendish culture alive and accessible to younger generations — one of the few events in Germany that focuses on the Slavic narrative tradition.
