La Dolce Vita on the Rathausplatz — second edition with pizza, Vespa, and Sicilian flair
The Serata Italiana Frankenthal on August 22 and 23, 2026, brings together Italian joie de vivre on the Rathausplatz. Following the successful premiere in September 2025, the second edition takes place in 2026 — this time in midsummer. La Dolce Vita, concentrated Italian flair: pizza and pasta from a wood-fired oven, Gelato-Ape with handmade ice cream, Vespa exhibition with vintage models, Italian music, and culinary experiences. The festival honors the town twinning with Rosolini in Sicily.
Confirmed by the official 2026 wall calendar of the city of Frankenthal — the Serata is establishing itself as a permanent fixture in the summer calendar.
Italy and Germany share a special relationship. The German longing for Italy — from Goethe's Italian Journey through the guest worker generation to today's summer holidays on Lake Garda — is a cultural constant. In Frankenthal, this relationship is celebrated with the Serata Italiana: a festival that brings Italian food culture, Italian design, and Italian lifestyle to the Vorderpfalz region.
The premiere in September 2025 was so successful that the city has continued the format for 2026. The second edition will take place in midsummer this time — on August 22 and 23. This date is listed in the official 2026 wall calendar of the city of Frankenthal and is therefore firmly planned.
Frankenthal maintains a town twinning with Rosolini in Sicily — a city in the province of Syracuse, known for its baroque city center and almond production. The Serata Italiana honors this partnership and brings Sicilian specialties to the Rathausplatz in particular: wine from the province of Syracuse, Sicilian delicacies such as Arancini, Cannoli, and Granita, music from southern Italy.
The catering strictly follows Italian standards. Pizza is baked in a portable wood-fired oven — thin, crispy, with Italian ingredients. Pasta is freshly prepared, served with classic sauces like Carbonara, Bolognese, or Pesto. Antipasti, Italian bread, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar complete the offering.
Visual hallmarks are the Gelato-Ape — a vintage three-wheeled scooter converted into a mobile ice cream stand — and the Vespa exhibition featuring models from different decades. Classic Vespas from the 50s and 60s fascinate enthusiasts and are popular photo opportunities.
Italian live music with accordion, guitar, and vocals — from classics like O sole mio to modern Italian pop hits — creates the mood. Tables and chairs are arranged in an Italian café style, and the evening lighting creates a Mediterranean flair.

The second edition builds on the positive response to the premiere. Italian exhibitors, restaurateurs, musicians, and Vespa collectors from the region and Italy itself are participating in the festival. The town twinning with Rosolini is a central theme.
