Overview

No Schäfflertanz took place in 2025 – the tradition is maintained in a seven-year cycle (last regular dance 2019, with a special dance in 2022 due to Corona, next main dance 2026). 2025 was the preparation year for the big 2026 season: choreography rehearsals by the Schäffler, costume preparations, boxwood hoop crafting, schedule coordination with the City of Munich for the over 450 performance venues.

Preparation 2025

The Schäfflertanz follows a seven-year cycle and does not take place every year. Therefore, no public Schäfflertanz took place in 2025 – but preparations for the big 2026 season were already underway behind the scenes.

What Happened in 2025

The Munich Schäffler met for choreography rehearsals, practiced the old dance figures (Laube, Kreuz, Schlange, Krone) and the Bavarian March of Defile. The costume – red jacket, green cap with tassels, white vest, leather apron – was revised and partly newly made. The boxwood hoops, a traditional element of the dance, were hand-woven. Coordination with the state capital Munich took place for the schedule of over 450 performance venues starting January 6, 2026. A rare tradition that is quietly maintained in the background and only appears publicly every seven years.
