Overview

The Schwarzwald Musikfestival 2025 ran from May 23rd to June 9th, 2025, and once again brought several weeks of classical, jazz, pop, and rock to venues throughout the Black Forest. Freiburg was again among the main venues. Mark Mast was responsible for the artistic direction.

Schwarzwald Musikfestival 2025

The 2025 edition showcased the festival's typical range: symphony orchestras in the large halls, jazz quartets in the more intimate concert churches, world music projects, and a pop-rock evening in an open format. Over two and a half weeks, the artists performed at a good dozen venues in the Black Forest.

Freiburg, Freudenstadt, and Donaueschingen were once again the most important hubs. The "one festival, many locations" format has proven to be defining for the festival's identity — and clearly distinguishes it from centralized classical festivals such as the Schwetzingen Festival or the Donaueschingen Musiktage.
