Overview

The 2025 Schützenfest took place as usual on the fourth weekend of August. The St. Andreas Schützenbruderschaft Velen e.V. — one of Westphalia's oldest brotherhoods — celebrated three days of Schützenmesse, parade, Grand Tattoo (Großer Zapfenstreich), and coronation of the new royal couple, accompanied by the traditional funfair on the festival grounds.

Following the major 500th-anniversary celebration in 2024, the 2025 Schützenfest followed the classic three-day format. Saturday featured the opening with Schützenmesse and the Grand Tattoo (Großer Zapfenstreich) on the castle steps, Sunday had the parade and festival ball, and Monday was for the bird shooting (Vogelschießen) with the coronation of the new royal couple.

As every year, the funfair on the festival grounds accompanied the marksmen's program. Velen and its neighboring communities in the Westmünsterland flocked to the festival, which is one of the most traditional marksmen's events in the Borken district.
