Schönewörde – Village between Heath and Aller

Schönewörde is a community of around 1,000 inhabitants in the Wesendorf municipality, located in the western Gifhorn district. The village lies at the transition between the heath and the Aller river landscape, characterized by agriculture, forestry, and active club life. The Schützenverein (marksmen's club) is one of the oldest and most active clubs in the area.

Preparatory Shooting as Tradition

A special feature of the Schönewörde festival is its division into preparatory and main festival phases. As early as May 15th, 2026, the "Dämmerschoppen" will take place – an evening preparatory shoot with a convivial gathering. On May 17th, the "Frühschoppen" follows with further preparatory shooting. These preliminary events of the festival phase build anticipation and foster community spirit.

Main Festival May 21st to 25th

The actual main festival runs from May 21st to 25th, 2026 – spanning five days. The King's Shoot, parades, the main parade, the King's Proclamation, dance evenings, and Family Day form the classic framework. Over several days, the Schützenfest allows ample time to honor each program item and cultivate sociability.

Schönewörde Marching Band

The local marching band provides the musical accompaniment for the parades. With drums, pipes, and lyre, they set the sonic backdrop for the processions and create the distinctive atmosphere that is part of every traditional Schützenfest.

King's Proclamation and Parade

The competition for the royal title is central. The new monarch is proclaimed in a festive ceremony, and the royal chain is handed over in the festival tent. The grand parade winds its way through Schönewörde – marksmen in uniform, the marching band, friendly clubs, and the reigning monarch present a colorful spectacle.
