Overview

2025, as an odd-numbered year, was the year of the Königsvogelschießen in Fischeln — not the grand Schützen- und Heimatfest. The Bürger-Schützen-Gesellschaft 1451 Fischeln determined its new Schützenkönig through the traditional shooting at the wooden bird on the bird pole. The shooting remained reserved for the association — not a public folk festival in its full scope as in even-numbered years.

In Fischeln, two festival formats alternate biennially: in even-numbered years, the grand Schützen- und Heimatfest with a folk festival character, and in odd-numbered years, the Königsvogelschießen, which determines the new Schützenkönig.

The Königsvogelschießen is primarily an internal club ceremony — the marksmen members shoot at the wooden bird on the bird pole; the last shot to bring down the bird determines the new monarch. The king or queen thus chosen led the association until the grand Schützenfest of 2026, the coronation of whom is the highlight.
