Overview

“Schloss in Flammen” in 2025 was performed as a pyrotechnic-musical open-air opera gala at a South German palace. The concept — live orchestra with soloists plus synchronized fireworks against a baroque palace backdrop — established itself as a popular summer format event. The orchestra of the Nationaltheater Mannheim and pyrotechnic artist Renzo Cargnelutti staged the evening.

Schloss in Flammen 2025

2025 saw another edition of the open-air opera gala with pyrotechnic choreography. The format has been stable for years: the orchestra of the Nationaltheater Mannheim plays opera classics live, international soloists interpret arias, Chako Habekost hosts in a Palatinate-Baden dialect, and Renzo Cargnelutti designs the choreographed fireworks.

As in 2026 in Schwetzingen, the open-air format was used to make opera accessible to a broader audience — picnic spots on the lawn, lower entry prices for the lawn, festive summer atmosphere at a baroque palace.
