Overview

The Historic Säumerfest Grafenau 2025 took place from August 1 to 3. Three days of medieval festival with a medieval encampment at BÄREAL, Säumer encampment at Haus im Wald, a historic market on the town square, Säumer procession, salt assaying, knight fights, and minstrels — together with the partner towns of Schärding and Bergreichenstein.

From August 1 to 3, 2025, Grafenau and its partner towns along the Golden Road celebrated the Historic Säumerfest. The organizer was FESTevent Grafenau GbR. The three festival venues — Grafenau Town Square, KurErlebnispark BÄREAL, and Haus im Wald — offered a packed program centered around the historic salt trade.

As every year, the grand Säumer procession on Saturday was the highlight, featuring a salt merchant caravan, packhorses, minstrels, and the traditional salt assaying on the town square.
