UniverCity – University and City
The motto of the RPTU Summer Ball 2026 – UniverCity – is programmatic. It combines the terms University and City into a neologism and signals the special connection between the RPTU university and the city of Kaiserslautern, which plays a central role in the city's 750th anniversary. The RPTU as an important academic pillar of the Westpfalz region with a science location and over 17,000 students, Kaiserslautern as the university city – a relationship that is symbolically expressed in the Summer Ball.
The Fruchthalle as a Ballroom
The RPTU Summer Ball uses the Fruchthalle as the venue. With its magnificent hall in late classical-historicist architecture, richly decorated ceiling, and characteristic acoustics, the Fruchthalle offers the ideal setting for a festive university ball. Table banquets, a dance floor, a stage for live performances, and a bar will be arranged in the various areas of the building. Capacity is limited; ball tickets are in high demand and are allocated through a structured sales process.
Program of a Ball Night
The ball follows a set dramaturgy. A festive dinner opens the evening starting at 8 PM. The dinner is accompanied by live music and a gala program with show acts. Later, the dance floor opens: Live bands play classic ballroom music (waltz, tango, foxtrot), while DJ sets provide popular dance music and party hits later in the evening. Guests appear in festive attire – tuxedos, long gowns, suits.
Politics, Economy, and University
The Summer Ball is more than a student event. It serves the RPTU as an occasion for encounter and representation: university management, professors, students, city leaders, and representatives from business and politics meet on neutral ground. In 2026 with a special emphasis: the Lord Mayor and the Mayor are traditionally provided with ball tickets, underscoring the connection between the university and the city. The joint 750th city anniversary and the 250th university anniversary create a unique backdrop.
