Carnival parade in Waldbreitbach (VG Rengsdorf-Waldbreitbach) with traditional start at 2:11 PM
Waldbreitbach on the Wied river is regionally known primarily as a Marian pilgrimage site and as a "bridge town" over the Wied. The Bethanien Monastery and the extensive pilgrimage routes attract thousands of pilgrims every year. At the same time, the town cultivates a vibrant club culture — from carnival and the Kirmes (funfair) with the famous "Wied in Flammen" (Wied on Fire) to the Verbandsgemeinde days. The Rosenmontagszug is the highlight of the carnival season.
The parade starts at 2:11 PM in the town center. The route follows the main streets of the town, characterized by its picturesque location on the Wied. Dance troupes, music bands, floats, and walking groups from local clubs parade against the backdrop of the monastery landscape and the Wieder Berge mountains — a special atmosphere that distinguishes Waldbreitbach carnival.
The Waldbreitbach Carnival Society, along with the "Gemütlichkeit" (Cozy) bachelor club, the men's choir, and the sports and shooting clubs, is one of the central pillars of village life. The carnival parade is supported by many volunteers, families, and friendly groups from the entire Verbandsgemeinde Rengsdorf-Waldbreitbach.
Unlike the carnival strongholds on the Rhine, the Waldbreitbach parade remains village-like, manageable, and family-friendly. Locals, pilgrims, and carnival-goers mingle in close proximity; the mood is relaxed, without the mass crowds of the big cities.
Carnival in Waldbreitbach is organized on a club basis. The route and lineup will be published by the organizer in February 2026.
