Overview

As every year since 1982, the Regensburger Stummfilmwoche offered six evenings of silent film classics with live music in the Arkadenhof Thon-Dittmer-Palais. A program structure that has made the festival one of the most important destinations for silent film culture in Europe for decades.

The 2025 edition once again confirmed its position as Germany's oldest silent film festival. Six festival evenings in the Arkadenhof Thon-Dittmer-Palais — and some special events such as the Buster Keaton special Go West (1925) for its 100th anniversary, which was screened in autumn 2026 at the Filmgalerie Leerer Beutel accompanied by the Viennese silent film narrator Ralph Turnheim and violinist Jenny Lippl.

The Arbeitskreis Film Regensburg e.V. maintained its careful programming policy: a mix of major works, regional connections, and rarely shown silent films. The live musical accompaniment — pianists, strings, small ensembles — remains the unmistakable hallmark of the Stummfilmwoche.
