Overview

The premiere of RE.LIGHT took place in March 2025 and brought an international light art festival to Regensburg's UNESCO World Heritage Old Town for the first time. 11 festival evenings with light art installations at historical venues, free admission, consistently high visitor numbers – the inaugural edition immediately established the format as a key spring event in Regensburg's cultural calendar.

RE.LIGHT 2025 – The Premiere

The inaugural edition in 2025 showed for the first time how a UNESCO World Heritage Old Town can become a stage for contemporary light art. The installations at the Stone Bridge, Cathedral Square, and several indoor venues were a public success and led to the City of Regensburg's decision to continue the festival.

City and Art in Dialogue

The dialogue between medieval architectural structures and contemporary light projection was the central curatorial focus in 2025. Several installations responded site-specifically to the Romanesque or Gothic facade geometry of the venues. This site-specific approach will be consistently continued in 2026.
