Prinzenraub-Spektakel 2025

As every year in July, the Agnesgarten at Altenburg Residential Palace was transformed into an open-air theatre stage in 2025. Five performances with pre-show entertainment and the main spectacle attracted visitors from the Altenburger Land and all over Thuringia. The focus was on the historically documented abduction of the Saxon princes Ernst and Albrecht by the knight Kunz von Kauffungen on July 7, 1455 — and their rescue by charcoal burners and common citizens.

The spectacle is supported by volunteers: Around 200 participants, from children to seniors, formed the „Prince-Thief Family“. The staging and performance remained true to the concept honed over years, before a new play and concept will kick off the cycle anew in 2026.
