Overview

The 2025 pilgrimage year in Werl was dedicated to the Catholic Holy Year under the motto “Pilgrims of Hope.” Throughout the season from April to October, tens of thousands of faithful made their pilgrimage to the Pilgrimage Basilica of Mary's Visitation — including foot pilgrimages from Werne, Olpe, and other parishes of the Archdiocese of Paderborn. Numerous pilgrimage days, masses, candlelight services, and special retreat days took place.

Werl Pilgrimage Year 2025 — Holy Year

In 2025, the Werl pilgrimage focused on the Catholic Holy Year under the motto “Pilgrims of Hope.” From April to October, tens of thousands of faithful, including individual pilgrims, families, parish communities, religious orders, and brotherhoods, journeyed to the Pilgrimage Basilica of Mary's Visitation. Highlights included the traditional foot pilgrimages (e.g., Werne–Werl, Olpe–Werl), weekly High Masses with blessing of the sick, candlelight services, and May devotions. The Pilgrimage Office also coordinated numerous special events for First Communion children, grandparents with grandchildren, motorcycle, tractor, and vintage car pilgrims. The diocesan pilgrimage day was not held as a special event in 2025; it was being prepared for 2026.
