Overview

The main pilgrimage period in 2025 ran from Trinity Sunday for four weeks thereafter. In 2025, tens of thousands of pilgrims from the German-speaking world also flocked to the Basilica of St. George to venerate the Holy Blood Relic. The Pilgrimage Parish of the Holy Blood Walldürn, together with the Archdiocese of Freiburg, organized the five pilgrimage Sundays, Corpus Christi, and the Great Blood Feast.

Main Pilgrimage 2025 — Review

The main pilgrimage period of 2025 followed the established four-week rhythm, starting with the solemn opening of the Holy Blood shrine on Trinity Sunday. Over 100 services, high masses, pilgrim masses, and pontifical masses marked the weeks. Pilgrim groups were traditionally welcomed at the town limits and escorted to the basilica.

As every year, highlights included the five pilgrimage Sundays with pontifical mass at 9:30 AM, Corpus Christi with flower carpets, the Day of the Sick, and St. Rita's Day with 3,000 roses at the adoration altar. An impressive German-language eucharistic pilgrimage whose tradition dates back to 1445.
