Parish of St. Mary Queen Falkenberg
The Parish of St. Mary Queen Falkenberg is a Catholic parish in the Falkenberg district of Garrel, in the southern district of Cloppenburg. Falkenberg is located in the Oldenburger Münsterland, a region with a strong Catholic tradition. The annual parish festival is one of the social highlights of the village year and brings together the parish community with its various groups — altar servers, church choir, KFD (Catholic Women's League), KLJB (Catholic Young Men's Association), Caritas.
Course of a Parish Festival
The parish festival follows the classic course of Catholic parish festivals in the Münsterland: festive church service in the morning, followed by a procession to the festival grounds around the church, morning pint (Frühschoppen), communal lunch, coffee and cake in the afternoon, children's program with games, bouncy castle, and craft activities, tombola and auction for the benefit of the parish community, presentation of the parish groups, concluding with a communal song or devotion.
Community at the Centre
Unlike commercial folk festivals (Volksfeste), parish festivals thrive on the voluntary commitment of the parish community. Everything from setting up stalls to catering is organized in-house. The festival thus has a distinctly family-like character and is an expression of vibrant community life in the Oldenburger Münsterland.
