In 2025, the Schmilau Volunteer Fire Brigade continued its Easter bonfire tradition. On Maundy Thursday, April 17, 2025, the fire burned on the football pitch on Salemer Straße. With a barbecue stand, waffles, and a beer stand, it was a cosy spring evening.
Easter Bonfire 2025
«It's starting again! Schmilau makes fire!» — this is how the Schmilau Volunteer Fire Brigade welcomed residents on Maundy Thursday, April 17, 2025. Starting at 7 p.m. on the football pitch on Salemer Straße, on the outskirts towards Salem / Sterley.
The fire burned for several hours, the barbecue stand was well-frequented, the waffle station served the children, and at the beer stand, beer and cola flowed for the adults. A typical Schmilau Easter bonfire night — tradition that shapes village life. In 2026, the bonfire will follow on Maundy Thursday, April 2.
