Joint bike tour through the Green Fingers for the 100th anniversary — June 1, 2026, 5:30 PM
The City Cycling initiative is a nationwide competition organized by Klima-Bündnis, where municipalities collect as many cycling kilometers as possible over three weeks. Osnabrück has been participating for years and is opening the 2026 campaign with a public kick-off bike tour.
The meeting point is the Market Square in front of City Hall, starting at 5:30 PM. The route is about 12 kilometers long and takes about an hour through selected Green Fingers — the open space axes that celebrate their 100th anniversary in 2026.
The tour connects the history of Osnabrück's open space concept with the climate protection goals of the City Cycling campaign. Guided sections explain the significance of each axis; the route is family-friendly and suitable for less experienced cyclists.
Over 21 days, teams from associations, schools, companies, and citizen initiatives collect their cycling kilometers. The collected kilometers are converted into CO2 savings and published. Osnabrück is regularly among the most active municipalities in Lower Saxony.
Helmet recommended. Roadworthy bicycle. In case of heavy rain, cancellation — information on mobil.osnabrueck.de. The tour is organized as a closed event with police escort.
The 2026 kick-off tour combines two occasions: the start of the City Cycling campaign and the 100th anniversary of the Green Fingers.
