Overview

Open Monument Day 2025 took place on the second weekend of September in Berlin. Over 300 monuments opened their doors, with more than 1,000 programme items in all twelve Berlin districts. Guided tours, bike tours, concerts, performances, and family formats made the weekend the city's largest free cultural day.

Open Monument Day 2025 in Berlin followed the proven logic of previous years: over a September weekend, more than 300 monuments in all twelve districts opened their doors. More than 1,000 programme items – special guided tours, themed walks, lectures, concerts, performances, bike tours – resulted in the most extensive Monument Day of all German cities.

Berlin, with its richly branched architectural and cultural history – Prussian palaces, prefabricated housing estates, industrial sites, Jewish cemeteries, GDR buildings, modern architectures – used the day of action as always to showcase places that are not publicly accessible all year round. Most programme items were free of charge, many guided tours required advance booking.

The organisers were the German Foundation for Monument Protection at federal level and the Berlin State Monument Office at state level – supplemented by numerous district initiatives, associations, foundations, and owners. This edition once again confirmed Berlin's position as the capital of German Monument Day. The 2026 motto "NETWORKS: Monuments & Infrastructure" was announced towards the end of the season.
