Overview

The Hamburg Newroz celebrations in 2025 once again brought together several hundred members of the Kurdish community and like-minded individuals. The highlight was an atmospheric fire celebration with traditional Halay dances, complemented by concerts, the spring reception at City Hall, and meeting events in community centres in the Hamburg-Mitte district.

Newroz 2025 in Hamburg took place around March 20 and 21 – as always, spread across several locations and organisers. The spring reception at City Hall, organised by the Left Party faction, brought together politicians and diaspora representatives. Vedat Demirbaş and fellow musicians performed a concert on a donation basis at the Linkstreff.

The central open-air celebration with fire and Halay dances was organised by Newroz Hamburg e.V. The event combined cultural symbolism – jumping over the fire, dance chain, traditional music – with political speeches on the situation of Kurds in the Middle East.
