Overview

In October 2025, the 9th edition of the Month of Contemporary Music once again brought together Berlin's New Music scene in a decentralized festival program. Over four weeks, concerts, installations, workshops, and discourse events were spread across about two dozen Berlin venues.

The 9th edition in 2025 prepared for the decade anniversary in 2026 and established the now-standard festival format: a full month of decentralized programming, coordinated by the initiative neue musik berlin e.V. (inm). As in previous years, Berlin ensembles, composers, and independent venues jointly presented a festival month.

Since its inception in 2016, the series has developed into one of the most important dates for New Music in German-speaking countries, supported by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe. In 2025, the program spectrum ranged from composed chamber music and sound art installations to live electronics and discourse events.
