The CSD of Mannheim — Parade, rally, and street festival with the motto 'Together as one — intersectional, anti-fascist, queer'
Monnem Pride is Mannheim's Christopher Street Day — the day of the year when the queer community of the 'Quadratestadt' becomes visible, demonstrates, and celebrates together. The event is supported by the Queeres Zentrum Mannheim (QZM) in G7 and a network of volunteer initiatives that come together throughout the year in 'Plena' and 'Bausteintreff' meetings to organize the Pride Week and the demonstration day. The mix is typically Mannheim: militant, diverse, urban, with a clear left-wing and anti-fascist stance.
The motto 'Together as one — intersectional, anti-fascist, queer' underscores the aim not to consider queer issues in isolation: racism, class issues, disability rights, gender diversity — Monnem Pride sees itself as an alliance platform for an open urban society. This is repeatedly made concrete in speeches on the stage at Alter Messplatz: queer refugees, trans rights, protection against hate crimes, solidarity with other marginalized groups.
The demonstration starts at Augustaanlage towards Wasserturm, proceeds along the Planken — Mannheim's famous shopping mile between the squares — and turns off at Paradeplatz into Breite Straße. Via Kurpfalzbrücke, it finally leads to Alter Messplatz, where the demonstration ends. Thousands of demonstrators, floats from local initiatives, neighborhood groups, associations like the MVD Mannheim (model railway club, which traditionally participates), university groups, and companies march along. The atmosphere is a mix of political demonstration and street festival — loud, colorful, militant, friendly.
After the parade, the rally begins at Alter Messplatz. Opening at 3 PM, followed by a stage program: speeches by local initiatives, queer associations, and politicians, drag performances, live music, DJ sets. The official program runs until 9:35 PM. Around the stage, there are information booths from the Aidshilfe, queer counseling centers, university groups, the City of Mannheim — and of course, food trucks and bars for a day outdoors.
Monnem Pride is not just one day: In the run-up, there's a whole Pride Week with film nights at Cinema Quadrat, readings, discussion rounds at QZM, concerts, and parties in Mannheim clubs (Forum, Hafen 49, NTM, and others). The exact weekly program will be published shortly before the CSD — you can find it centrally on monnempride.de.
Mannheim has a strong and established queer scene — the Queeres Zentrum Mannheim/Rhein-Neckar has been coordinating initiatives for years, and the former Pride House has been established as the G7 location since 2023. The city administration actively supports the CSD. In the Rhineland-Palatinate surrounding area (Ludwigshafen, Heidelberg), there are separate CSDs, but Monnem Pride is the largest in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region.
