Overview

The Monheim City Festival takes place every two years. 2025 was an interim year without a main event; the city instead focused on smaller summer events like the Kulturwerke program at Eierplatz and the traditional Gänseliesellauf, which is held annually.

The Monheim City Festival is designed as a biennial major event; the last full edition before 2026 took place in 2024. In the interim year 2025, a variety of smaller events were held instead of the city festival, spread throughout the year.

These included, among others, the summer program of the Monheimer Kulturwerke at Eierplatz, the annual Gänseliesellauf (which also takes place in a reduced form in the interim year), children's festivals in the neighborhoods, and the established markets in the old town. These smaller formats kept the desire for public celebration alive without requiring the large logistical effort of the main edition – and created anticipation for the 15th edition in 2026 with the motto "Ganz schön frech".
