Overview

The 2025 edition of Mannheimer Sommer took place in June 2025 and established the OPAL as the National Theatre's central interim venue. Over eleven days, the NTM presented a festival programme of opera, music theatre, dance, and concerts at venues across Mannheim — from the OPAL and Friedenskirche to the Luisenpark — and into neighbouring Schwetzingen. International artists and the ensemble in residence shaped the programme.

Mannheimer Sommer 2025

With the 2025 edition, Mannheimer Sommer consolidated its concept of decentralised city-wide performances. During the main venue's renovation at Goetheplatz, the NTM used the OPAL and numerous partner venues — an architecture that the festival further expanded in 2026.

Programme highlights in 2025 included opera productions, dance theatre guest performances, orchestral and chamber music evenings, and experimental performances. International guests and the NTM ensembles shared the programme; the festival centre with a bar and nightly dance parties brought the audience together.
