Traditional May Market in spring on Rathausplatz Holdorf with rides, market stalls, and club catering
The Maimarkt Holdorf has been a firm fixture in the event calendar of the municipality of Holdorf for decades. Like many May Markets in Lower Saxony, spring fairs historically combined with the exchange of cattle, seed, and horse markets into pure folk festival and annual market formats. The Holdorf May Market has largely given up its market character in favor of a classic festival site, but retains the name as a trademark.
The Rathausplatz Holdorf forms the spatial heart of the event. With its central location, direct connection to the main traffic routes, and manageable size, the square is ideal for a three-day folk festival. Showmen set up their rides, snack, and raffle stands around the square, and local clubs supplement the offer with their own catering lines.
During the day, the Maimarkt presents itself as a family festival: children's carousel, chain carousel, dodgems, shooting gallery, candy stalls, sausages, and fries. In the evening, the character shifts to a convivial beer tent and festival atmosphere with live music or a DJ in the larger snack tents, where adults from Holdorf and the surrounding area meet.
The distribution over Saturday, Sunday, and Monday is a classic showman format and makes the Maimarkt a relaxed long weekend — with a special emphasis on the family-friendly Sunday afternoon and the convivial early morning pint on Monday.
The detailed program for 2026, including times for individual program points, will be published by the municipality of Holdorf and the participating showmen shortly before the event on holdorf.de and in the local press. The schedule follows the proven three-day folk festival structure.
