Overview

Already in 2025, Hohenzieritz Castle commemorated the anniversary of Queen Luise's death. On July 19, 2025, at 4:00 PM, speaker Matthias Marr gave a talk on "In Quiet Enthusiasm – Johann Gottfried Schadow and Queen Luise," accompanied musically by harpist Merit Zloch. Admission free.

The traditional Luise Day on July 19 – the anniversary of the queen's death in 1810 – is commemorated annually at Hohenzieritz Castle. In 2025, the lecture by art historian Matthias Marr was the focus: "In Quiet Enthusiasm – Johann Gottfried Schadow and Queen Luise." Schadow, one of Prussia's most important sculptors, significantly shaped the image of Luise – his famous double statue of Princesses Luise and Friederike (1797) is an icon of Berlin Classicism.

The lecture was accompanied by harpist Merit Zloch with an atmospheric program. Admission to the Luise Memorial Site and the lecture was free on this day. The event is considered the prelude to the major anniversary year 2026 (250th birthday of the queen).
