Edition 2025 — Airship Run
The first Airship Run at Essen/Mülheim Airport was held in October 2025 — a premiere for a format that runs on the runway and taxiway instead of public roads. The event by Marathon und Triathlon Mülheim e.V. was well-received by runners from across the Ruhr region, who appreciated the unusual setting of an airport with an airship hangar.
In 2025, the Airship Run was one of the most remarkable running premieres in NRW: for the first time, amateur runners were allowed to run on the taxiway and runway of the Essen/Mülheim commercial airport — with the finish area in the WDL airship hangar. The strict safety regulations (no headphones, no littering) made the event special, but the experience between planes and the airship hangar quickly became an insider tip for unusual running experiences.
