Overview

In 2025, the Lotus Blossom Festival at Arboretum Ellerhoop once again attracted thousands of visitors to the botanical garden in the Pinneberg district. The pink-blooming Indian lotus ponds, the only open-air cultivation of their kind in Germany, make the festival a botanical sensation every year.

Lotus Blossom Festival 2025

As every year in late summer, the lotus blossoms of Arboretum Ellerhoop opened at the end of August. Thousands of visitors came to experience the spectacle — the only large-scale open-air cultivation of the Indian Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) in Germany reaches its peak for only a few weeks each year.

The Arboretum combines the natural bloom with a small festival programme of guided tours, lectures, and refreshment stands. Over 100,000 visitors per year make the botanical garden in Ellerhoop one of the most visited in all of Schleswig-Holstein. The next Lotus Blossom Festival will follow on August 22–23, 2026.
