In spring 2025, the Oper Leipzig began announcing and preparing the program for the Lortzing 26 festival. Initial press conferences, the start of ticket sales, and preparatory concerts led to the grand Lortzing festival, which will take place for the first time in 2026 on the composer's 225th birthday.
Preparation for the First Lortzing Festival
2025 was the preparation year for the first Lortzing festival by the Oper Leipzig. In April 2025, the complete program was publicly announced — ten performances, two world premieres (“Der Waffenschmied”, “Regina”), the classics “Zar und Zimmermann” and “Undine”, a symposium by the University of Leipzig, and the Open Stage.
Advance ticket sales for the festival week from April 24 to May 3, 2026, began in spring 2025. Accompanying preparatory concerts and readings took place in the foyers of the Oper Leipzig.
