Overview

The 2025 Long Day of Urban Nature took place in mid-June with over 250 events throughout the Hamburg metropolitan region. Guided hikes, boat trips, bird watching, and family formats brought local nature closer to Hamburg residents. Organizer: the Loki Schmidt Foundation with volunteer naturalists from all over the city.

The 2025 edition, as usual, took place in mid-June and, with predominantly pleasant early summer weather, attracted thousands of Hamburg residents on hikes, boat trips, and guided tours. Over 250 individual events were spread across the entire metropolitan region — from Hamburg's city center to the marshlands and the Vier- und Marschlande.

The Loki Schmidt Foundation has relied on this format since 2007 and has continuously expanded it. The volunteer work of the naturalists who lead the tours is the backbone of the festival — biologists, foresters, beekeepers, and citizens with local knowledge. The combination of professional guidance and an accessible format makes the Long Day one of Germany's most popular nature conservation events.
