Overview
In 2025, the Kunstfestival Open Stage had not yet taken place as an independent city festival — the premiere is announced for June 13, 2026. Precursors were the smaller open-stage formats and dance stage events by Martina Houben's association Tanz & Kulturbühne Leverkusen e.V., from whose experience the larger festival emerged.
Before the first official edition in 2026, Martina Houben's association Tanz & Kulturbühne Leverkusen had already organized smaller open-stage formats and dance stage performances for regional artists over the years. From this practice, the idea emerged in 2025/2026 to expand the format into a city-wide visible festival in the Wiesdorf pedestrian zone — as a contribution to making Leverkusen's local cultural scene visible. The premiere on June 13, 2026, marks the official start of this new festival.
