Overview

The 436th edition of the Kronacher Freischießen 2025 took place in August, continuing the almost 440-year tradition. Eleven festival days with the marksmen's procession, marksmen's competition, festival tent, three music stages, and an amusement area once again made Kronach the meeting point for all inhabitants of the Frankenwald and many guests from Bavaria and Thuringia.

The 2025 edition continued the tradition, which has been maintained since 1588 without significant interruption. The marksmen's procession, the marksmen's competition, and the final proclamation of the new marksmen's king formed the identity-defining highlights. The festival tent buzzed with Volksfest atmosphere for eleven days, and the three stages featured everything from brass bands to rock bands.

The Kronacher Freischießen is an example of how a folk festival shapes a town's identity: The "fifth season" is a fixed term in Kronach, and many families plan their holidays around the Freischießen. In 2026, this tradition will be carried on vibrantly with the 437th edition.
