Overview

The Kreuzbergfest Pleystein 2025 took place, as every year, twice — in May for the Feast of the Finding of the Cross and in September for the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross. A torchlight procession, a festive service on the open-air altar on the Kreuzberg, a pilgrimage market, and a concert by the Pleystein Town Band formed the fixed program elements of a tradition over 200 years old.

The Kreuzbergfest in Pleystein took place in 2025 as usual, twice — in early May and mid-September. Both editions followed the traditional program structure: a torchlight procession on Saturday evening, a solemn open-air altar service on the Kreuzberg on Sunday, a pilgrimage market with devotional items and regional specialties, a concert by the Stadtkapelle Pleystein on the market square, and a closing devotion in the Kreuzbergkirche.

The festival once again confirmed its role as a central religious and social tradition of the Oberpfälzer Wald. Pilgrims from the entire region and from the Bohemian border area participated in the mountain festival — a piece of lived popular piety spanning over 200 years.
