Traditional Water Festival on Lake Krakow
Krakow am See is a state-recognized health resort in the Rostock district, nestled between Lake Krakow and a network of smaller lakes on the western edge of the Mecklenburg Lake District. Tourism, fishing, and water sports shape the town's identity — and at the Fishermen's Festival, this identity is visibly celebrated.
The most important part of the Fishermen's Festival happens on the water. On Saturday evening, the corso, featuring elaborately decorated boats from local water sports clubs and fishermen, moves through the harbor basin and along the promenade. Accompanied by music and commentary, it creates a traditional spectacle that many Krakow residents cherish in their family memories.
On Saturday afternoon, Krakow gathers at the historic lido for Neptune's baptism. Those jumping into the lake for the first time are symbolically baptized by Neptune and his court — a humorous spectacle reserved for children and guests, but which attracts attention throughout the town.
Throughout the weekend, the festival tent by the lake offers a music program, alongside a flea market, market stalls, amusement rides, and a program for families. A small but firm tradition is also the pedal boat race — a playful competition between clubs and Krakow personalities.
The grand finale is the large fireworks display over Lake Krakow, launched at 9:30 PM after the corso. Thousands of guests line the promenade — one of the most beautiful summer scenes in the Mecklenburg Lake District.
The 44th Krakow Fishermen's Festival runs from August 14 to 16, 2026, on Lake Krakow. As in previous years, a working group in the town of Krakow am See, supported by the tourist information office and local clubs, is organizing the event. The third weekend of August has been the fixed weekend for the Fishermen's Festival for decades. Constant program elements include the corso (boat parade), Neptune's baptism at the lido, the flea market, the festival tent with a music program, and the grand fireworks display over the lake as the finale. Detailed program and bands will be published about four weeks before the date on krakow-am-see.de.
