Overview
The Köhler- und Schwämmklopferfest 2025 took place in June in Neustadt am Rennsteig. The Thüringer Rennsteigverein Neustadt e. V. once again presented the tradition of tinder preparation from the tinder fungus and charcoal burning. Three festival days combined craft demonstrations with a folk festival character on the festival meadow by the Rennsteig.
2025 Retrospective
The 2025 season confirmed the festival as a fixture in the event calendar of the Thuringian Forest. Schwämmklopfer in green traditional dress and charcoal burners (Köhler:innen) at the kiln were the focus; the festival tent program with live bands provided the folk festival atmosphere. Hikers exploring the Rennsteig found a well-attended festival site in Neustadt over the weekend.
