Palatinate Kerwe with parade and amusement rides at Neupotz festival grounds
Kirchweih Neupotz follows the classic Palatinate custom structure but is uniquely shaped by its location on the Rhine and its close connection to Neupotz's fishing and shipping culture. Four festival days with a keg tapping ceremony, Kerwerede (parson's speech), festival tent, amusement rides, morning pint, and a parade form the established framework. The Rhine floodplain, bordering the edge of the village, serves as an additional attraction for visitors as a local recreation area.
The parade on Sunday or Monday is a highlight of the Neupotz Kerwe. Clubs, floats, music bands, and traditional costume groups march through the village, with spectators lining the streets. Amusement rides for families are available on the festival grounds: a children's carousel, bumper cars, shooting gallery, and candy stalls.
The sports club, fire department, music club, carnival society, church community, and fishing club provide the culinary offerings. Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), Bratwurst (fried sausage), Backfisch (fried fish - fitting for a Rhine-bordering community), sauerkraut, fries, and desserts complement the drinks with Palatinate wine, beer, and Schorle (wine mixed with sparkling water).
Neupotz is located directly on the Rhine and, as a former fishing village, is closely connected to the river. The Neupotz Gold Find of 1967 – Roman and Germanic valuables recovered from the Rhine gravel – made the town internationally known in archaeology. A selection can be seen at the Historical Museum of the Palatinate in Speyer. The Rhine floodplain is a nature reserve and a popular hiking area.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the municipality of Neupotz in late summer. The structure will follow the proven highlights of previous years: opening on Saturday evening with keg tapping, morning pint and family afternoon on Sunday, parade, and the Kerwe closing on Tuesday evening.
