Overview

In 2025, Hiltpoltstein also celebrated its Matthäus-Kerwa around September 21st. The historic town center under the castle ruins once again became the scene of beer tapping, a festival procession, the Kerwabaum, and Franconian delicacies. It was embedded in the series of Kerwen in the market area — Almos, Möchs, Kappel, Wölfersdorf, and Großenohe each have their own dates spread throughout the summer.

The Hiltpoltsteiner Kerwa 2025 followed the classic structure of Franconian Kirchweihen: several festive days around St. Matthew's Day with beer tapping on Thursday evening, dancing in the inn over the weekend, a festive church service and morning pint on Sunday, and a festival procession with the Kerwasburschen through the town center. The festival was accompanied by Franconian specialties — bratwurst, Schäuferla, sauerkraut, Pressack — and beers from the surrounding breweries in Franconian Switzerland.

As every year, the main Kirchweih in Hiltpoltstein was the highlight of a whole series of district Kerwen: Almos in July, Möchs in July, Kappel and Wölfersdorf in August, Großenohe at the beginning of September. The Kerwa season in the market area traditionally ends with Hiltpoltstein itself.
