Traditional Oggersheim Kerwe at Schillerplatz with barrel tapping, flea market, and stage program
Oggersheim is one of Ludwigshafen's most populous districts with over 25,000 inhabitants and has retained its independent character with a market square, Oggersheim Castle, Schiller House, and many clubs. With the Sommertag in spring and the Kerwe in autumn, the district celebrates two major annual festivals; the Kerwe is considered the larger of the two.
Schillerplatz in the center of Oggersheim has served as the district square and Kerwe square for decades. During the Kerwe, rides, a festival tent, food stalls, and a stage are set up here. Its location in the district center ensures visibility and accessibility for the citizens of Oggersheim.
The Kerwe is traditionally opened with a barrel tapping – an opening ritual common in the Palatinate and Southern Germany, where the first beer barrel is tapped by the local representative or event organizer. The Kerwe begins with the first glass of beer.
A special feature of the Oggersheim Kerwe is the traditional flea market, which takes place parallel to the Kerwe activities at Schillerplatz or in the adjacent streets. Thus, the festival combines classic Kerwe elements with the format of a flea market.
The stage program includes live music, club contributions, and show performances by local dance and sports groups. Showmen with rides, candy stalls, game booths, and food stands make the Kerwe a folk festival of classic character.
Schillerplatz transforms into a Kerwe backdrop with a festival tent, rides, and food stalls. The flea market expands the festival offerings with a classic flea market format.
The complete 2026 program will be published in good time by the district association and Lukom. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
