Overview

The 2025 edition of the KeNaKo Africa Festival took place in June 2025 for the first time at Washingtonplatz near Berlin Central Station – after several years at Alexanderplatz. Over eleven days, the festival presented live concerts, dance, theatre, workshops, film screenings, and a market with crafts and culinary delights from all African regions. Embedded in the Global Learning project, organized by Afrika Medien Zentrum e.V., with free admission.

Change of Location to Central Station

The 2025 edition marked a turning point: After many years at Alexanderplatz, the KeNaKo Africa Festival was held for the first time at Washingtonplatz directly at Berlin Central Station – with a central location and significantly higher visibility for commuters and tourists.

2025 Program

As in previous years, the festival consisted of three pillars: a stage with live concerts, dance, and theatre, a market with arts and crafts and culinary specialties from African regions, and an educational and debate program with workshops, readings, and film screenings as part of the Global Learning project.

Organizer and Funding

As usual, Afrika Medien Zentrum e.V. was responsible for the organization; the festival was funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and other institutions. Admission was free.
