Traditional carnival parade on the Sunday before Rose Monday in the Eifel village
The traditional Karnevalsumzug Nattenheim takes place in 2026 on Sunday, February 15th, starting at 2:00 PM. The Nattenheim Carnival Association has been organizing a parade for many years, which is one of the fixed dates in the Eifel carnival season. Carnival floats, walking groups, and music bands parade through the village streets of the Eifel village near Bitburg, followed by celebrations until the evening.
Nattenheim, a community in the Eifel region within the Bitburger Land collective municipality, preserves the Catholic Fastnacht (carnival) tradition with its unique blend of rural down-to-earthness and jester's humor.
The Karnevalsumzug Nattenheim is one of the most traditional Sunday parades in the Bitburg-Prüm district of the Eifel. The carnival association, which has organized the parade for decades, has opted for a family-friendly Sunday afternoon slot that appeals primarily to families.
At 2:00 PM, the parade sets off from the village entrance. Carnival floats, whose themes satirically address local, regional, and national events, form the core of the procession. In addition, dance troupes present their choreography, walking groups showcase their themed costumes, and music bands from the Eifel provide the fitting soundtrack. The route leads through the main street to the festival grounds.
The floats are created through months of volunteer work. Association members meet regularly in workshops and barns starting in the fall to build wooden frames, shape papier-mâché figures, and decorate the floats with crepe paper and paint. This association work is an important pillar of the village community.
Afterwards, the carnival community gathers in the festival hall, where catering, dance troupe performances, speeches (Bütt), and dancing mark the end of the carnival. Live music or DJ sets ensure a lively atmosphere into the evening. Eifel specialties and drinks are offered at fair prices.
What distinguishes Nattenheim's carnival is its authenticity: no commercialization, no big stars, but rather village-specific association work, Eifel dialect in the speeches (Bütt), and a strong sense of community.
The Karnevalsumzug Nattenheim 2026 takes place on Sunday, February 15th, starting at 2:00 PM. A firmly established tradition of the Bitburger Land collective municipality: floats, dance troupes, walking groups, and music bands parade through the main street of the Eifel village, followed by a convivial carnival celebration in the festival hall with a live program and catering. Families, carnival enthusiasts, and costumed guests from all over the Eifel gather along the route.
The Nattenheim Carnival Association deliberately maintains its Sunday date as a family-oriented decision. The earlier afternoon hours allow all generations to celebrate together. After the parade, the festivities move to the festival hall, where the village's carnival culture is maintained in a convivial atmosphere.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in January. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
