Storming of the Town Hall on Fetter Donnerstag (Fat Thursday), February 12th, and Grand Carnival Parade on February 15th, 2026, 2:11 PM – the highlight of the Bitburg carnival season.
The Bitburg Carnival is the central carnival event in Bitburg, the capital of the Eifelkreis district. It is organized by the carnival club "Freunde der Bütt" (KV FdB), founded in 1982, which has since established itself as the driving force behind Bitburg's carnival culture.
The jester's kickoff is traditionally the Storming of the Town Hall on Fetter Donnerstag (Weiberfastnacht), February 12th, 2026, at 11:11 AM. The jesters symbolically take over power in the city, the mayor's tie is cut, or the town hall is "stormed." This ceremony marks the start of the intense carnival season in Bitburg, with the city firmly in the jesters' hands.
The season's highlight is the grand carnival parade on Carnival Sunday, February 15th, 2026, with assembly in the late morning and the parade starting at 2:11 PM. The route goes through Trierer Straße, Hauptstraße, An der Römermauer, and Bedastraße. Carnival societies from Bitburg and the entire Eifelkreis, walking groups, floats, music bands, and groups of women (Möhnenscharen) – including the well-known "Mötscher Möhnenschar" – create a colorful spectacle and thousands of confetti.
After the parade, the carnival crowd heads to the Volksbank festival tent, where the after-parade party with Erich & Funky Money Rollers, Hofnarren, and dom-Piraten ensures a lively atmosphere. Simultaneously, the Haifischbar in the Haus der Jugend opens its doors from 3 PM to 10 PM, offering another party location, especially for younger audiences.
Since 1982, KV Freunde der Bütt (FdB) has been the heart of the Bitburg carnival scene. With gala sessions, children's carnival, events for women (Möhnen) and men, as well as organizing the Storming of the Town Hall and the parade, the club covers the entire season. Its commitment, along with that of many other carnival clubs, shapes the distinct carnival culture in the Eifel.
The Bitburg carnival season 2025/2026 reaches its climax in February. With the Storming of the Town Hall on February 12th and the grand parade on February 15th, the central events are celebrated within four days.
Further season events (gala sessions, children's carnival, women's events) will be communicated separately by KV Freunde der Bütt.
Bitburg is located on the A60 motorway between Trier and the Belgian border. During the carnival parade, the city center streets are closed; public parking lots on the outskirts will be signposted.
