About Mittelrhein Wine Festival

The Mittelrhein Wine Festival in Kamp-Bornhofen is one of the most atmospheric wine festivals in the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. Directly on the Rhine promenade, at the Hotel Rheingraf, vintners from the Mittelrhein wine-growing region present their wines: dry Rieslings, fruity Pinot Blancs, robust Pinot Noirs from the slate slopes. The Mittelrhein Wine Queen lends official glamour to the festival, complemented by live music and suitable dishes for the ambiance. For 2026, the date is expected to be the second weekend in October (previous year: October 11–12, 2025).

The Mittelrhein wine-growing region is one of Germany's smallest and steepest wine-growing areas. Wines of particular minerality and elegance grow on slate terraces, some of which are barely manageable with plough and horse. Kamp-Bornhofen, located on the right bank of the Rhine between Boppard and Sankt Goarshausen, is one of the traditional wine-growing towns in this region.

The Mittelrhein Wine Festival draws on this tradition and brings together the vintners of the Mittelrhein wine-growing region on the Rhine promenade. The venue is the Hotel Rheingraf at Rheinuferstraße 33 – a location with an unobstructed view of the Rhine and the castle landscape.

The vintners present their wines: dry Rieslings known for their slate minerality, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, and depending on the vintage, also sparkling wine and rosé. Tastings are a central element, supplemented by explanations from the vintners about the vineyard site, grape variety, and vintage.

A traditional highlight is the appearance of the Mittelrhein Wine Queen, who visits the festival as the official representative of the wine-growing region. Live music – usually acoustic formats that suit the wine atmosphere – complements the program. Dishes from the Hotel Rheingraf's kitchen and, if applicable, snack stands round off the offering.

The location on the Rhine, with a view of the famous Feindlichen Brüder (Hostile Brothers) – Sterrenberg and Liebenstein castles high above Kamp-Bornhofen – makes the festival an experience that goes beyond pure wine enjoyment.

Mittelrhein Wine Festival — edition 2026
