Overview

The 2025 season continued the tradition of the Kahnfahrt-Festspiele on Augsburg's city moat. As in previous years, the Theaterwerkstatt Augsburg, in collaboration with the Buchhandlung am Obstmarkt, produced a theatrical-musical season on the wooden boats – a format that has become a firm fixture of Augsburg's summer cultural program since its premiere in 2018.

Proven Concept on the City Moat

The Kahnfahrt-Festspiele stick to their characteristic format year after year: a site-specific theatre performance on and around the city moat, in the boats of the historic Augsburg Kahnfahrt at the Rotes Tor. In 2025, the Theaterwerkstatt team, with the participation of the Buchhandlung am Obstmarkt, again staged a season between May and June.

Augsburg Water Summer

The festival is embedded in the annual season of the Augsburg Water Management System – a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2019. It is among the literary-musical highlights of the Bavarian Swabia region and regularly sells out quickly.
